One of the main successes of this marvellous novel is the theme of scramble of power in a big family backed up by strong military backgroung.

The main character is the number two of the three brothers in this big family. The writer has successfuly given us a good picture and characterization of this main character. He is tall, handsome, intelligent and observative. Though he loves searching for sex around all the time, he is very quick witted in detecting anything suspicious.

When his yougest brother plots to push him out to be the target of public attack, even at that time the environment is filled with lots of the other family members, this young man is smart enough to using some words to divert the verbal attack to somewhere else. Even though he is not very interested in power struggling, he has embodied with such a great genuine power to be the future leader of this big family.  

Such a type of adult novel talking about power struggling and power abuising is very rarely seen in to-day's adult writings. Most of the time, we are given stories with countless of love making, ceaselessly love making, more or less every day. The theme is almost the same. The main character is tall, handsome with strong sex desire and male organ. He is about to conquer lots of opposite sex. He is almighty in every way. And that is all. Most of the readers are tired of such formular type of adult writings.

But unlike the other novelists, this writer has brightened the eyes of the readers by introducing to us a theme of power struggling in a military big family. Who has become the most powerful man will be the dominating figure of the big family. The character's elder brother lacks such ambition to scramble for power, nor has he the desire to become a politically a powerful figure in the family. To him, a full enjoyment of life with luxury, jewels, weman and all sorts of material life satisfaction will be more than enough. He is not smart and he knows that. So he simply retreat from the polital power struggle and keeps on his own style of life.

Unlike his eldest brother, the character's younger brother is the most ambitious man in the character. He has plotted to collect political power here or there so that one day he will become the most dominating power to surpercede the whole family. He is intelligent as well. He is also a genious in politics. But unfortunately, his intelligence and political talents are outshined by his elder brother who is number two in the ranking of the family members. This has placed a plot of possible bloodshed, killing, slaughtering, murderings in the future developement of the story. Importantly, it is such an intensive development of the power struggling that have arouse the interests and curiosity of the readers who are eager to know what will happen next. In this way, the reader has successfully arrested the hearts of all the readers.

Of course, the mature control of the writer's very high Chinese literacy has also made this novel very readable, especially his explicit and sexual descriptions of all the sex activities. How beautiful the girls are, what types of clothes they wear on, the colour of their clothes, how beautiful they look like, what their sexual response in love making, what is the feeling of both sexes in loving making - all are very detailly and beautifully presented. The readers' breathings nearly stop here because such descriptions are too much to them. It seems a small breathing will make them miss some wonderful points.

This is a novel written by a very mature writer in writing adult novels. I appreciate especially his injection of a very new topic into the novel, that is, power struggling among the brothers which usually is followed by countless of bloodshed, murdering and slaughtering scenes.
